fishkeepr
fishkeepr does not require an account, and never asks for your name, email address, or any other information that identifies you. Your tanks, fish, and care tasks are stored on your device.
Two features do send data off your device: fishLens photo identification, and subscriptions. This policy explains exactly what each one sends, and why.
Everything you record in the app — your tanks, the fish in them, notes, and care tasks — is stored locally on your device. We do not receive it, and it is not transmitted to us or to anyone else. If you use iCloud backup, that data is included in your device backup, which is encrypted by Apple and accessible only to you.
When you scan a fish with fishLens, the photo is resized on your device and sent to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to identify the fish and return the result to you.
We do not store your photos. The photo is held in memory only for the moment it takes to process the scan, and is not written to any database or file storage. It is not used for advertising, and it is never sold or shared with anyone beyond what is described here.
Anthropic processes the photo as our service provider in order to return the identification. Their handling of API data is described in Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Please note that a photo may show more than the fish. Anything else in the frame — a room, a person, a reflection — is sent along with it. Scanning a cropped photo of just the fish is a good habit.
The first time the app needs it, fishkeepr generates a random identifier for your installation. It is a random number. It is not your Apple ID, not your device's advertising identifier, and it is not derived from anything about you or your hardware — it cannot be traced back to you, and it is not shared with any other app. Deleting and reinstalling the app generates a new one.
We use it for two things:
Like any internet service, our server receives your device's IP address when it makes a request. We use it to rate limit scans and prevent abuse of the service, and — for scans that arrive without a device identifier — to count scans against the free limit. We do not use it to build a profile of you or to track you across services. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes it as described in Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
fishkeepr Fan subscriptions are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system and managed with RevenueCat, which tells us whether an installation's subscription is active.
Your payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or receive your card details, billing address, or Apple ID. The only thing sent to RevenueCat is the random device identifier described above and the purchase information Apple provides. RevenueCat's handling of that data is described in RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
fishkeepr contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. There are no cookies or tracking pixels. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we have no interest in doing so.
fishkeepr is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app asks for no personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has sent us something through a fishLens photo that concerns you, contact us and we will address it.
If you never use fishLens and never subscribe, nothing leaves your device.
Deleting the app erases everything stored on your device, including your aquarium data and the device identifier. Our server keeps the scan count associated with that identifier, which is a bare number with nothing identifying you attached to it and is no longer connected to your installation once the identifier is gone. To ask about or delete anything associated with a device identifier, contact us at the address below. Because we hold no information that identifies you, we will need the identifier itself in order to find anything.
If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
